Following on from our success with CUFA's Financial Literacy Programme in Cambodia in 2013, a similar programme will be delivered in Timor-Leste later this year.
Kick Goals for Timor-Leste is a unique overseas volunteer experience combining playing football and teaching in schools in some of the poorest communities in the world.
Volunteers travel to Timor-Leste spending 2 weeks assisting with an important financial education and football program for children in one of the poorest countries in Asia while being immersed in the fascinating Timorese culture and way of life.
The program combines learning and play and provides important life skills to help equip children for the future, ultimately helping communities to break free from the poverty cycle.
How it works
Participants spend 2 weeks living and experiencing life in Timor-Leste volunteering at a local school and assisting in the Children’s Financial Literacy Program delivered through the organisation, Credit Union Foundation Australia (CUFA). This program teaches students basic numeracy and savings education combined with fun lessons on the football field.
How you can help
We are asking for donations to assist in running the financial literacy programs.
The funds raised go to support CUFA International Projects across South East Asia Pacific, including children’s financial literacy delivered in Timor-Leste.
Timor-Leste is a beautiful tropical country and an emerging tourist destination for the intrepid traveller. It has a rich cultural heritage and is one of Australia’s closest neighbouring countries. Timor faces many challenges including widespread poverty and underdevelopment as communities struggle to rebuild after decades of economic and political turmoil. This has left schools often under resourced and unable to provide important life skills such as financial literacy - a key to building strong village economies.
By bringing football to the classroom we're helping to build sustainable futures for children.
